Zhong Nanshan

Zhong Nanshan is a respiratory physician and the director of the National Clinical Medical Research Center for Respiratory Diseases under the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University. He is also an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, a member of the academic department of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and a leading figure in combating SARS and COVID-19 in China. His previous positions include Party secretary and president of Guangzhou Medical University, the president of the GMU First Affiliated Hospital and the Chinese Medical Association, the director of the National Key Laboratory of Respiratory Diseases and a leader of the high-level expert group of the National Health Commission.

In 2010, Zhong was awarded an honorary Doctor of Medicine by Macao University of Science and Technology; In 2019, he was employed as a member of the academic department of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences; In Sept , 2020, he was selected into the list of COVID-19 response and assessment experts of the World Health Organization; In Nov 2020, Zhong was awarded the Science and Technology Achievement Award of the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation. In Dec, he was awarded an  honorary doctoral degreeby  Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the Grand Lotus Medal of Honor by the Macao SAR Government. On Sept 8, 2020, Zhong was awarded the Medal of the Republic, one of the top national honors in China.

Zhong has long been engaged in the research, prevention and treatment of major infectious respiratory diseases and chronic respiratory diseases, with rich and substantial achievements.
