Zhang Jiabao

Zhang Jiabao, born in Gaoyou city, Jiangsu Province, is a pedologist and member of the Communist Party of China. In 1982, he graduated from the department of soil agricultural chemistry of Nanjing Agricultural University; in 1985, he graduated from the Institute of Soil Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) with a master's degree; in 1990, he graduated from the International Rice Research Institute/University of the Philippines with a doctoral degree. Zhang is currently a researcher at the Institute of Soil Science, CAS. 

Zhang has been engaging in the simulation of the soil water and material circulation system, the acquisition of soil information and soil improvement and technical research. He led the establishment of China's farmland experimental station network research platform and the national engineering laboratory for soil nutrient management, making significant contributions to the improvement of cultivated land quality. Zhang has won three second prizes and one first prize of the national science and technology progress awards.

Zhang was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
