Zhang Ping
Zhang Ping, born in Hanzhong city, Shaanxi province, is an expert in wireless mobile communication. In 1990, He graduated from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT) with a doctoral degree in engineering. Zhang currently is a professor of the School of Information and Communication Engineering of the BUPT, director of the State Key Laboratory of Networking and Switching Technology, expert of the national 5G and 6G general expert Group and an IEEE Fellow. He was the chief scientist of the National Key Basic Research Development Program (973), an expert of the national 863 "Network and Communication Technology" theme expert group and a member of the first expert advisory committee on international cooperation of the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
Zhang has been engaged in the study and innovation of mobile communication theory, making fundamental contributions to China's autonomous and controllable mobile communication technology which is becoming the international mainstream standard. He put forward a transmission and networking technology of mobile communications suitable for high-speed broadband and invented the first TDD 4G experimental system and 3G/4G commercial instrumentation.
Zhang has won one special prize and one first prize of the National Science Progress Awards, two second prizes of the State Technological Invention Awards and two second prizes of the National Science Progress Awards. He also won the Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Prize, among many others.
Zhang was elected an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2019.
