Zhang Si
Zhang Si, born in Wenchang, Hainan on October 3, 1963, is an expert in Marine ecological engineering, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and a researcher, doctoral mentor and director of the South China Sea Institute of Oceanology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Zhang conducted research on the observation, cognition and utilization of microbial diversity, developed the theory of tropical marine ecological engineering, invented key techniques such as ecological restoration by microorganism, promoted the engineering of tropical Marine ecological protection and the utilization of biological resources, and advanced development of marine strategic emerging industries and Marine ecological construction. He has identified one new family of marine microbiology, 11 new genera, 39 new species and 119 new compounds and has developed 16 new marine biological green products.
In recent years, he has carried out many ecological investigations in the South China Sea. Zhang is a chief scientist of the strategic A-class pilot science and technology project of CAS and of a national key research and development project.
