Greater Bay Area Science Forum: New Year Message for 2023

Time really flies! While we are bidding farewell to the fruitful year of 2022, we are also welcoming the year of 2023 that holds great promise. Here, the Greater Bay Area Science Forum (GSF) would like to express its sincere gratitude for your strong support over the past year. We wish your organization all the best in the New Year!

The year of 2022 took GSF on a completely new journey of success. Following the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress and of the congratulatory message from President Xi Jining for the first GSF, we have been down-to-earth and relentless in our effort to ensure success in each and every aspect of GSF 2022- which would not have been possible without the guidance of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the China Association for Science and Technology; without the solid support of the governments of Guangdong Province, Guangzhou City and Nansha District; or without the concerted efforts of various sectors of society.

First, through thoughtful planning and meticulous design, we organized expert workshops and established the Strategic Advisory Council comprising political leaders, heads of international organizations, and prominent experts, who collectively contributed to GSF solutions.

Second, to promote scientific progress and innovation, we organized a number of industry-academia collaboration projects in some cities of the Greater Bay Area (GBA) as a boost to Nansha Solutions and innovation-driven development in GBA.

Third, to enable the long-term development of GSF, the permanent site of GSF broke ground and the operations platform of GSF was established, which has laid a solid foundation for the sustainable development of GSF as a platform committed to GBA with a global reach.

Fourth, to help pool resources and intellectual capital, we offered recommendations concerning the uptake of strategically significant scientific achievements, the R&D of critical technologies and science awards, solidified the basis of GSF as an advanced think tank, and explored ways and methodologies of solving global issues through technological innovation.

Fifth, to facilitate interactions and collaborations, we organized a number of academic events with the participation of top scientists, including Fields Medal and Turing Award winners, in an effort to deepen GBA cooperation in innovation and create an environment in which science is highly valued and respected.

The sixth is to actively enhance sustainability by incorporating an industry-academia platform, holding a branding seminar to celebrate the 1st anniversary of Greater Bay Area Science Forum (GSF), creating a world-class talent service center based on the permanent site of GSF, building a comprehensive strategic partnership with China Unicom, and building a highly competent team at the Secretariat. All these efforts are expected to lay the groundwork for the sustainable development of GSF.

Bring together wisdom, bring together the world.We look forward to your continued faith in and support of GSF in 2023. We will remain committed to GBA and join hands with leaders from global scientific, business, financial, and other communities to enhance GSF as a platform promoting exchanges and cooperation in science, so that together we can address issues in today's world through science and take innovation and development to new heights through cooperation.
