gsf.org.cn/Upadated: May 08, 2023

Major maritime powers worldwide are considering scientific and technological innovation as a crucial means to gain a competitive edge, and are accelerating efforts towards deep-sea exploration.

The sub-forum focuses on the strategic demands of deep-sea exploration and the construction of a maritime community with a shared future. Under the theme of the "Green Development of Deep Sea Resources for a Harmonious Co-existence with Nature", the sub-forum engages in discussions and exchanges on key issues such as the sustainable development and utilization of deep-sea ecological resources, the protection of marine biodiversity, the preservation and restoration of typical marine ecosystems, and the development of deep-sea observation/exploration equipment and technologies. These discussions aim to further promote the construction of an ocean ecological civilization and safeguard marine ecological security.

Furthermore, to fully implement the important strategic deployment of building a strong maritime country, as outlined in the 20th CPC National Congress, the sub-forum will also conduct exchanges and discussions on such topics as Guangzhou’s marine development strategy, the marine industry and spatial planning. It aims to provide insight on advancing the modernization of local marine governance systems and capabilities.
