Lu Jiahai

Lu Jiahai is a professor and doctoral supervisor at Sun Yat-sen University. He has a multidisciplinary educational background in epidemiology, vaccinology, pathogen biology, and veterinary medicine. He serves as the director of the Key Laboratory of Vaccine and Biological Products Quality Control under the National Medical Products Administration, the director of the One Health Research Center at the School of Public Health of Sun Yat-sen University, and the director of the Comprehensive Health Center at Hainan Medical University. He is also the editor-in-chief of the One Health Bulletin, as well as a visiting professor at the State University of New York and Edith Cowan University in Australia. His research focuses on key technologies for the prevention and control of emerging infectious diseases.

After the outbreak of COVID-19, he started to work with renowned epidemiologist and "virus hunter" Professor W. Ian Lipkin from Columbia University. They collaborated on national key research and development programs, including the Ministry of Science and Technology's Key Strategic Cooperation Demonstration Project.

Lu is an advocate and practitioner of "One Health" in China. He has promoted the establishment of China's first Research Center on One Health and has been dedicated to advocating and promoting the establishment of relevant disciplines in "One Health" through domestic and international forums, conferences, training programs, and textbook compilation. He has played a role in incorporating the "One Health" strategy into health policies and the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20) for the National Infectious Disease Prevention and Control.

He has published over 400 academic papers in renowned domestic and international journals such as ScienceClinical Infectious Diseases, Emerging Infectious DiseasesJournal of Infectious Diseases, and PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases. He has authored, co-translated, and contributed to more than 10 monographs and textbooks. He has received two second-class provincial and ministerial-level scientific and technological progress awards (ranked first and second), three third-class awards (two ranked first and one ranked second), and holds more than 10 invention patents.
