Chen Hesheng

Chen Hesheng is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He has served as the director of the Institute of High Energy Physics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, chairman of the Chinese Physical Society, vice chairman of the China Association of Science and Technology, chairman of the Asian Committee for Future Accelerators, and leader of the expert group for the "Frontier Research on Major Science Facilities" under the National Key Research and Development Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology. He is currently the director of the Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPC) National Laboratory.

Chen proposed the scientific goals and design scheme for the development of BEPC, and served as the project manager for the major renovation project of the BEPC. He was awarded the National Science and Technology Progress Award for his contributions.

Chen is also one of the main initiators of the China Spallation Neutron Source (SNS). He served as the overall commander of the project and manager of the engineering management department.
