Wu Lixin
Wu Lixin is a member of the Standing Committee of the 13th and 14th National People's Congress, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, director of the Laoshan Laboratory, vice-president of the Ocean University of China, and vice-chairman of the Qingdao Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. He has long been devoted to research on ocean dynamics and climate, and ocean earth system observation, simulation and prediction.
While based at the Qingdao National Laboratory for Marine Science and Technology (QNLM), Wu has led the "Transparent Ocean" research program and promoted the implementation of many major projects, such as the ocean supercomputing and the "Two Oceans, One Sea" three-dimensional observation system. He is leader of the expert groups of the Western Pacific Major Research Programme of the National Natural Science Foundation and the 14th Five-Year Plan for the Key Research and Development Project on Marine Environments of the Ministry of Science and Technology.
In 2019, Wu was awarded the Ambassador Award - the highest award of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) for leadership in Earth and space science - for his outstanding contributions and leadership in the field of "cross-scale ocean dynamics and climate". He was also honored with the title of AGU Fellow, becoming the first Asian scientist to receive the recognition in the history of the AGU. He was elected a member of the World Academy of Sciences in the same year.
