2023 GSF empowers innovation, collaboration, and regional development

The 2023 Greater Bay Area Science Forum (2023GSF) kicked off in Nansha district, Guangzhou city of Guangdong province, on May 20, with five parallel sessions opening on the same day.

Women Scientists Session: "Her" Wisdom Lights up Science and Technology

The session showcased the contributions and achievements of female scientists in the new era, striving to create a more equitable and favorable research environment for unleashing the power of women in science and technology.

The Session on Sci-Tech Innovation and the Integrated Development of the Greater Bay Area: Promoting the coordinated development of industries through sci-tech collaboration and innovation in the Greater Bay Area 

The sub-forum focused on the integration of technology and industry, building new bridges and platforms for innovation, and sharing new opportunities for collaborative development among Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. It aimed to contribute to the technological innovation and industrial development of the Greater Bay Area.

Leung Chun-Ying, vice-chairman of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said in his speech that the construction of the Greater Bay Area is the key support for China to achieve high-level technological self-reliance.

"I hope scientists and compatriots can unite, climb the peak of science, seek innovative development, and strive to build the GBA into a global hub of technological innovation. It should become a strategic fulcrum for the new development paradigm, a demonstration area for high-quality development, and a leading force in China's modernization," Leung said.

The Session on Vocational Education: Technology Commercialization & the Matching of Supply and Demand of Technological and Technical Talent 

Tian Lin, a representative of the Chinese Society for Technical and Vocational Education, unveiled 16 patents from vocational colleges, research institutions and industrial enterprises in biomedicine, information and communication, high-end equipment, advanced materials and clean energy. These patents showcased the advanced technologies of related industries and the practical outcomes of industry-education integration and collaboration.

The Session on the Development of Nansha Science City and Regional Coordinated Development 

The session focused on the important role of Nansha Science City in driving regional collaborative innovation. It also emphasized the support of scientific and technological cooperation for the coordinated development between the eastern and western regions. Key topics included Nansha Science City's planning and construction, collaborative innovation in the GBA and technological support for the western regions. The forum aimed to facilitate talent aggregation and cooperative development.

The Session on Intellectual Property: Empowering High-Quality Development with IPR Services 

A report on the patent index was released by the National Science Library of the Chinese Academy of Sciences during the session. It was based on the patent data and revealed the characteristics and development trends of the GBA's scientific and technological innovation.

The 2023 GSF provides a platform for insightful discussions and collaboration, aiming to foster scientific advancements, innovation and regional development. The forum runs annually from May 20-23 in various cities, including Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Foshan in Guangdong province.
