The Greater Bay Area Science Forum convened its master lecture series on digital data in both Guangzhou and Hong Kong on July 31.

Dr Fan Chunhai, a distinguished academician from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, shared an interesting fact at the event: by 2020, global data had reached 44 Zettabytes (ZB). Remarkably, through DNA storage, all this data could be stored in a mere 200 kilograms of synthesized DNA.

Fan anticipates that by 2024, nearly 30 percent of digital businesses from around the world may adopt this revolutionary DNA storage technique.
