Permanent venue for GSF enters new phase
With the steel structure for the permanent venue of the Greater Bay Area Science Forum completed on Nov 27, efforts are now underway to install metal roofing and curtain walls.
The permanent venue for the GSF, located in Nansha district, Guangzhou in South China's Guangdong province, is being developed in several phases, with the phase-I project encompassing an academic center, a science and technology museum, and some supporting facilities, covering a total floor area of approximately 58,000 square meters and a total construction area of around 93,500 sq m.
The phase-I project requires a total of 7,000 metric tons of steel, featuring a roof composed of 26 curved surfaces symbolizing waves. These surfaces form a continuous wave-shaped metal roof spanning 170 meters in length and 150 meters in width, harmonizing with the sail-like façade. The phase-I project is expected to be completed by 2025.
The wave-shaped metal roof design is a central highlight of the phase-I project, presenting many challenges during construction.
The project team has innovatively applied 68 smart construction technologies on-site, including unmanned elevators, intelligent warehouses, and construction robots.
In the future, the permanent venue of the GSF will integrate various functions such as conference centers and science and technology innovation hubs, catering to diverse needs.
