gsf.org.cn/Upadated: Apr 30, 2025

The permanent venue for the Greater Bay Area Science Forum is nearing completion, with nearly 70 percent of the metal roofing finished. The project features smart sensors in its steel structure to monitor deformation and maintain stability. The shared hall boasts uniquely shaped, large aluminum panels, resembling a futuristic ark.

According to Chief Engineer Li Hongjun, the project is expected to be completed within the year. The construction site is bustling, with over 200 scissor lifts, four tower cranes, and 35 aerial work platforms. Workers are focused on curtain walls, metal roofing, mechanical and electrical installations, and interior finishing.

The metal roof consists of 26 wave-like curves, making it the largest undulating stainless steel roof under construction in China. To ensure precision, the team uses 3D laser scanning and smart welding robots that offer millimeter-level control.

The first phase of the project includes an academic center, a science museum, and some facilities, covering about 58,000 sq m. The total building area is approximately 93,500 sq m, with one underground and four above-ground floors, reaching a height of 52 meters.
