Tang Benzhong

As a guest at the 2025 Greater Bay Area Science Forum, Professor Tang Benzhong was elected to the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2009 and to the World Academy of Sciences for the Advancement of Science in Developing Countries in 2020. He has been recognized as a highly cited researcher in both chemistry and materials science since 2014. 

His achievements include numerous awards, scholarships, and honors such as the Croucher Senior Research Fellowship Award in 2007, Honorary Citizen of Guangzhou City in 2015, the National Natural Science Award (1st Class) in 2017, the Scientific and Technological Progress Award from the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation in 2017, the Nano Today Award in 2021, the Biomaterials Global Impact Award in 2023, the CCS–SINOPEC Award from the Chinese Chemical Society in 2024, and the Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Outstanding Contribution Award in 2025. 

Prof Tang is mainly engaged in the study of materials science, macromolecular chemistry, and biomedical theranostics. He invented the concept of aggregation-induced emission (AIE), and his laboratories are leading the world in AIE research.

Prof Tang has authored over 2,000 scientific papers, which have been cited more than 243,000 times. His H-index is 216. He has given over 500 invited talks at international conferences and holds more than 100 patents. Currently, he serves as the editor-in-chief of Aggregate, published by Wiley, and is a member of the editorial boards of over 20 scientific journals.
