GSF explores topics from national strategic projects to embodied AI
The 2025 Greater Bay Area Science Forum (GSF) opened on the morning of Dec 7 with five distinguished guests from the scientific and industrial sectors delivering speeches.
Focusing on sci-tech innovation and industrial integration, the guests shared insights on key topics like education reform, large-scale scientific facilities, philosophy of science, SOE transformation, and AI & robotics. They discussed the highlights and breakthrough directions in China's sci-tech development, especially within the GBA.
John Hopcroft, recipient of the 2024 International Science and Technology Cooperation Awards of the People's Republic of China and Turing Award, professor at Cornell University, USA, and foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), emphasized the need for China to promote education reform by focusing on improving teaching quality. Chen Hesheng, academician of CAS, introduced China Spallation Neutron Source and its industrialization layout.
Tang Benzhong, academician of CAS, noted that while China leads in research achievements, it must develop its own school of thought in the philosophy of science and foster original ideas. Wang Xiangming, chairman of China Resources Group, shared China Resources' practices in the new round of SOE transformation. He Xiaodong, senior vice president of JD, elaborated on JD's tech evolution from language large models to multimodal and embodied intelligence.
The forum also featured cutting-edge sub-forums on AI, low-altitude economy, and fintech. Over 50 scientists and professionals, including Turing Award winners and domestic and international academicians, came together to share their expertise and contribute to building the GBA into a world-class sci-tech innovation center.
